ISEE Prep Course Session 2 - Monday/Wednesday Zoom

Session 2: November 7th through December 21st (6 total weeks/12 total classes)

11/7, 11/9, 11/14, 11/16, 11/28, 11/30, 12/5, 12/7, 12/12, 12/14, 12/19, 12/21

This is an entirely new session with all new ISEE content. Scholars from session 1 can continue and join this class and new scholars are also welcome. 

Who: Two certified Secondary Education Teachers from our local Eliot Innovation School. One qualified ELA teacher will take on Literacy and another qualified Math and Science teacher will lead the Math sections. 

Where: Zoom links will be sent out before the start of class

When: Monday and Wednesdays 4:30PM - 6:30PM. Monday will focus on Math Prep and Wednesday will be ELA Prep. Space is limited!

How: The CLLC will be requiring an ISEE prep book that parents/guardians are responsible for purchasing before the class begins. This book is different than the session one prep book so you can repeat this course for a second session.

MAP Prep Course/Test Taking Skills  - Tuesdays on Zoom

October 4th through November 8th (6 total weeks/9 Total Hours)

Who/About: Ms. Moran is a certified Secondary Education Teacher from a local Boston Public Charter School. This course will focus on the Boston Public School MAP Test that will run in December. Scholars in grades 6 will now use their MAP results to get into exam schools. Ms. Moran will focus on both ELA and Math throughout the course. Ms. Moran will go over the ins and outs of the MAP test,  begin each lesson with a test taking skill that applies to the MAP test, then apply the lesson to specific Math and ELA MAP questions for the remainder of class. 

The class will run for 6 total sessions, 90 minutes each. The total price is $399 -  if you break this down it  comes to $66.50 per class or $44.33 per hour.

When: Tuesdays from 5:00PM-6:30PM 1.5  hour course. Space is limited!

 

September 10 - Red Cross Babysitting Course 9:00am-4:30pm

The Red Cross will be running an in-person babysitting training at the Learning Center! This program provides youths who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. This training will help participants develop leadership skills, learn how to develop their own babysitting business and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. 

 

The course runs for seven and a half hours total. Scholars will have lunch and several breaks built in throughout the day. Lunch will not be provided. This training is ideal for scholars ages 11 and up. Upon completion of the program, students are given a babysitting certificate that never expires! The cost is $120 per child.


 

Chess Wizards Chess Class- Wednesdays 4:30-5:30

 09/07, 09/14, 09/21, 09/28, 10/05, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/02, 11/09, 11/16, 11/30, 12/07, 12/14 (14 total classes) 

Chess Wizards will be offering a fall in-person after school program at our learning center on Wednesdays from September 7th through December 14th (14 classes). 

 

Chess Wizards has been teaching the game of chess since 2002. Join them this fall for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes throughout the program! Whether your child is new to chess or has been playing for a while, they will improve their chess skills, meet new friends, and work out their most powerful muscle - their brain! Each Wednesday, the Chess Wizard program will  include fun team chess games (like Corner Chess), snacks, tournaments, and puzzles. All chess materials will be provided by Chess Wizards. 

 

This after school program is ideal for scholars in rising 1st through 8th grade. The cost is $345. Engineering/Coding with LEGOs Tuesdays 4:00PM -5:15 PM

9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15 (8 Total Classes)

Each Tuesday, students will learn about a new science concept then build different motorized LEGO brick creations using axles, gears, battery packs and motors based on the lesson. Students will each be given an iPad provided by Letyourmindgo with powerpoint instructions to guide them along as they create their builds each week. Once their build is complete students will have time to modify their motorized LEGO brick creation any way they would like! Staff will also demonstrate how special LEGO elements can work together to

create various types of LEGO brick builds. Each week students will apply STEM-based principles and build their LEGObot to help them complete different tasks and challenges. This program is 8 weeks long and will run for one hour and 15 minutes per class.

 

This after school program is ideal for scholars in rising K through 8th grade. The cost is $200. The Etiquette Academy of New England - Manners Matter Thursdays 5:00pm - 6:00pm

9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10,27 (5 total classes)

 

The Etiquette Academy of New England will be partnering with the Charlestown Lacrosse and Learning Center this fall to run their Manners Matter program! The program will begin on Thursday, September 29th from 5:00pm-6:00pm and will conclude on October 27th (5 total classes).

 

FEE. The fee per for the five-week program is $250 

Course Description: 

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY. Our programs help participants strengthen her table manners, communication and social skills to present their best-self. The classes are designed to be dialogue based and are filled with thought-provoking discussions, games and role-play. 

Your scholar will be enrolled in Manners Matter, Level I. 

Five-week program TOPICS

  1. ​Introductions. Basic Manners. Introducing, greeting and addressing adults and peers, establishing eye contact, sitting and walking properly, covering yawn, pointing, being respectful, etc. 

  2. Table Manners, part 1. The correct way to hold and use utensils, etiquette of eating finger foods, bread & butter, pace of eating, and using utensils. Home vs. restaurant etiquette, table setting, using utensils, napkin etiquette, dealing with allergies, and being excused from the table, etc.

  3. Conversations Skills. How to start, navigate and end a conversation, including some great conversation topics for various situations. How to have a conversation with an adult? Ending a conversation, interrupting, introducing people, etc. Social Graces for Public Places. Manners and positive communication outside of the home, walking on the street, standing in line at the cinema, theatre, grocery store, clothing store, elevator & escalator etiquette, etc.

  4. Guest & Host Etiquette. Be more aware of what is appropriate, helpful and the responsibilities of being a guest vs. being a host. Etiquette of giving and receiving presents. Thank You Notes and Cards for Special Occasion. Writing a thoughtful Thank You Note takes time and skill. 

  5. Friendships, Cliques and Social Cues. What does it mean to be a good friend, why are friendships important, boundaries of friendship, how to make friends, how to avoid being a frenemy, etc.
